Andy, at 13.2 and 35 years old is our oldest working pony at Limebrook Farm Riding School. He is generally fit and healthy, and is a good steady pony although he no longer jumps or goes out hacking. We find our ponies and horses, whilst remaining fit enough, prefer to keep working - if we were to retire him he would probably give up, and he seems to enjoy the work he does though we are very careful not to stretch him.
Obviously his age does limit him, but makes him an excellent steadier ride for very new young riders.
Andy was originally a livery pony, and used to jump at weekends. His owner sadly outgrow him, and he was sold to Limebrook about 12 years ago. In his day he has taught many a young rider how to jump.
He now has cataracts in both eyes which limit his vision but do not cause him discomfort, but he wears a mask in summer when he is in the fields to protect his eyes.
Andy is a lovely Strawberry Roan, and has a lovely nature.
