Bubbles
Standing 13.3 hh Bubbles is a cheeky Connemara gelding.
Bubbles came to Limebrook at the age of four from Ireland. He has been with us four years now - no prizes for guessing his age!
The story of the early days of Bubbles at Limebrook is a very sad one. The first time he was let out in a field some of the other horses took a dislike to him and chased him. He ran into some barbed wire (now replaced by wooden fencing!) and cut himself very badly indeed. A whole flap of skin was torn off, and he was cut deep down to the bone.
Ian Paton, of Paton and Lee Veterinary Surgeons did a marvellous sewing job on him, although initially he was not too hopeful of a full recovery! But Bubbles did pull through, and healed so well that if you didn't know where to look you would never even find the scar!
At Limebrook the ponies are usually turned out together in the same field - but Bubbles has to be turned out with the bigger horses, otherwise he bullies the other ponies.
Bubbles has very good stable manners - but filling his stomach is always his main thought! If you leave his stable door open just as inch while you are mucking him out he will be through it in a flash, and making his way to the nearest hay!
Bubbles is an excellent lead rein pony, and is popular in all the children's lessons. He has a good jump which also makes him a good choice for older children and lightweight adults. He also enjoys hacking.
It has to be said that at times in summer Bubbles can be very hard work, as he prefers to take things very steady. He can be frustrating in one of his summer moods, but at least his riders get firm leg muscles!
In winter Bubbles livens up, and is a fun, forward ride. He won 'Best Behaved Horse' at the 2005 Christmas Ride, being impeccably behaved throughout the evening! He is shown all dressed up below.
