OK, time for the Webmaster to be self indulgent. This is the prettiest tri-coloured mare on the yard - All that Jazz. Otherwise known as Jazz, Jazza, Mucky Mare or Grotbag depending on where she is or what mood she's in!
Jazz is 10 years old this year, and came to Limebrook 4 years ago on the 12th May, 2002. Both Michael and I had been riding at Limebrook for 2 years by that time, and we had wanted our own horse. I had to change jobs and start to commute to London to get enough money (which does cut down on riding time), but in April 2002 I started my new job, and we started to look for horses. Every weekend for six weeks we were out travelling around, Horse and Hound in hand, trying all manner of makes and sizes. We found Jazz at a yard near Gatwick. She was the only 'mongrel' there, as they mainly bred Arabs - she was known for running round flagging her tail as though she wanted to look like her companions. Mind you, knowing her better now I think it had more to do with the Thoroughbred stallion they also had there!
Jazz had been owned by her previous owners for just over a year, and they had broken her in. They didn't really want to part with her, but the lady who they had bought her for could no longer ride. We were told many stories about her - she used to follow her previous owner around like a dog, they didn't bother with a headcollar, and when they brought her in from the field the elderly man there used to ride her in in just headcollar and lead rope shouting 'yee hah' and doing a John Wayne act! The funniest thing was when I initially rang to ask for some more details, and the old gentleman was the only one in and kept repeating 'I won't here a bad thing said about that mare!' and I had to wait for someone else to get back before they would give me any more information!
My first ride on Jazz at Limebrook - you can tell how nervous I was!
Michael aged 7 hugging his new pony - his head is above her withers now!
A New Forest Cross, Jazz stands 14.2, and is full of character, though not particularly an easy mare. She probably deserved much better owners and riders than she ended up with, and being used to being kept out all year the first winter was particularly hard. Bucking Bronco was the only term that could be applied to her. However, she has really settled down and matured over the past couple of years, and we have grown better riders because of it.
She is not a predictable mare to ride, and is a different horse for me, Michael and Steve. With me she is settling down to doing more dressage work, and we hope to enter our first test this year. Michael loves jumping her, and also loves her bucking in winter - she seems to oblige him - and they have a lot of fun together. Steve only starting riding her again a couple of years ago, and for the first few weeks there was a bit of a battle to sort out who was in charge! Steve won, and soon they began to enjoy a lot of fast canters together. over the past 2 years Steve has done more and more hacking, normally with his friend Keith on Clover Both horses get on exceptionally well, and enjoy sharing a packet of cheese and onion crisps at a pub stop!
Obviously I am biased in thinking that she is very pretty - but visitors to the web site seem to think she is too! This website has had two pictures 'stolen' by other websites - both American riding schools who portrayed her as one of their own ponies! Pictures of Michael riding Jazz appeared captioned 'Annie riding our fave pony Tipee', and 'Danny on our flashy pony Copper'! One website was closed down for using a copyrighted photo, the other removed the image.
No other horse's pictures have been stolen! (as yet!)
Jazz does not like other horses being able to look into her stable - last year she all but demolished the wall between her and next stable to show her disgust as Bubbles looking in on her! This year her very own 'courtesy board' was put up, and she had the most peaceful winter yet! A very private horse, our Jazza!
Unfortunately I do not know any more of her history - I would love to find out more, but the previous owners have not responded to my requests. She has an 'A' branded on her left flank, which is probably a breeder's mark.
Jazz is registered with C.H.A.P.S.
