Jess, along with his friends Dolly and Albert were purchased for Limebrook from a riding school in Epping which closed down in 2005. The ponies were only used to being ridden in a very small school, and had never had to do proper schooling exercises before. Hence the reason why they don't see the point of circles! When Alan and Clare went to see the horses it was Jess that they thought would be particularly good in the school, and were not been proved wrong.
13.2 hh and just 9 years old Jess was taken on by sisters Sally and Lucy when the Limebrook riding school closed in 2007. Jess had to get used to being thoroughly spoilt, and the girls started to work hard to teach her that she is no longer a riding school pony. To start with they had to concentrate on getting her to listen to them, rather than following what other horses were doing.
Their hard work has really started to pay off. To start with they had difficulty getting her to canter towards jumps, but are now doing a 7th hole cross and have just started jumping spreads! Jess now listens to them (most of the time) and is getting quite good at being a livery horse. She has had most of her riding school habits drilled out of her.
Sally and Lucy entered the Showing Show with Jess at Limebrook on the 28th May, and she behaved brilliantly for them both.
Jess changed dramatically in the first 4 months of being a livery pony, and the difference is noticeable to everyone. Jess has given Lucy the confidence to jump bigger jumps, and she is doing doubles and spreads as well.
Jess is going to the Horselands Cross Country course soon, and the girls are very excited. (more pics from there please!).
Sally entered Jess into the clear round jumping on August Bank Holiday Monday and they won 2 rosettes. They are now teaching Jess reinback and leg yielding and she is coming along very well.
Jess thoroughly enjoys the weekly group lesson the girls take her in, and tends to get a little excited (causing the instructor near heart attacks at times!)
The girls are keeping Jess on over the winter, and are looking forward to her being even more forward in the winter months! Good luck girsl!
