Retired Oldies
Josh, contemplating life and thinking horsey memories!
Limebrook tried to look after and care for the horses and ponies when they become too old to work in the school. We keep as many retired horses and ponies as we can, especially the older ones, and others we make sure we find very good homes for, and keep in touch with them.
Sometimes it isn't easy to retire a horse - they can have other ideas! Josh, for example, kicked up so much fuss when he was retired that he had to be put back into the school. Twice!
Raz taking it easy
The real shock in 2004 was the severe bout of laminitus suffered by Sunny! There are many children, teenagers and adults in the Maldon area who learnt to ride on this lovely palomino mare. She was so poorly that the vet could do no more for her, but she was brought home to Limebrook and given such love and attention that slowly she pulled through. She will probably never be ridden again, but at least she is with us and enjoying life. In August Sunny was allowed out to grass again, and can now be seen enjoying herself with her friends, or even cantering around the field. This was something that couldn't have been imagined a few months ago.
Unfortunately keeping retired horses means being prepared to lose them - Patch died on the 17th January, 2007.
